Hero MotoCorp, early this year, launched the refreshed 2014 model of its popular Xtreme. The new Xtreme accentuates the popular Honda design, fuss free ownership, reliability and value for money. Introduced originally in the year 2008, Hero Xtreme is a successor of the Hero Honda CBZ. It is a 150 cc good looking, sporty and efficient motorcycle in this segment.

Bajaj Pulsar is a motorcycle brand owned by Bajaj Auto since 2001. It is a high power performance bike with great features. Pulsar 150 DTS-i is one of the latest enhanced models in the Pulsar 150 series launched by Bajaj in the year 2010. This tight, well-built, aggressive and swift looking bike was an instant hit among bike lovers, especially youngsters.

Hero Xtreme is equipped with a 149.2 cc EDGE tech 4 stroke air cooled engine which delivers a maximum power of 14.4 bhp at 8500 rpm and gives a maximum torque of 12.8 Nm at 6500 rpm.The engine performance is smooth and power is increased only gradually. The new Xtreme gives excellent handling and comfort. Breaking is adequate with disc and rear drum. It has some new features like LED tail lamps and tuff up tubes. However, it lags in mileage compared to other 150 cc bikes.

The new Pulsar comes with a 149.01 cc DTS-i 4 stroke air cooled engine which delivers good power of 14.09 bhp at 8000 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 13.90 at 6500 rpm. The engine provides efficient combustion and better performance under all conditions.It also assures great performance at lower rpm through its advanced ExhausTEC Technology.

Xtreme as well as Pulsar are very good in their initial pick up.Both have the electric kick start system with wet multi plate clutch and have 1 up and 4 down 5 speed transmission. Both reach the 0-60 kilometers per hour mark in just 5 seconds and also offer very good throttle response. But the Pulsar comes with a digital speedometer which is not provided in Xtreme. Pulsar yields an impressive mileage of 55 to 60 kilometres per litre while Xtreme offers only 45 to 50 kilometres per litre. Also the Pulsar has a large fuel capacity of 15 litres. It is only 12.3 litres in Xtreme.

Hero Xtreme comes with a minimum price tag of Rs 70000 whereas Bajaj Pulsar is slightly cheaper starting at Rs 64000, approximately.

In conclusion, Hero Xtreme promises good quality, durability and superb performance whereas Bajaj Pulsar gains more on the looks, power and mileage part. So, one has to first decide on what one wants from a motorcycle and then decide on which is the best one.
